17 February 2020

On the West Gate Freeway outbound near Grieve Parade, crews continue to work around the clock in preparation for the future widening of the West Gate Freeway from 8 to 12 lanes.

Installation of 343 metres of new drainage is happening to get ready for the new lanes.

To install the new drainage, up to eight layers of road was removed and replaced to deliver 600 metres of new road surface – this is the biggest area of brand new pavement on the project to date.

Reconstruction of the road surfaces will ensure the freeway can withstand high traffic volumes for years to come.

Other works include installing new permanent concrete barriers for road safety.
