Inner west businesses can advertise for free directly to the thousands of workers on the West Gate Tunnel Project in a new initiative to support local businesses.

A new online portal has been launched putting workers in touch with local businesses from Docklands to Laverton.

With the number of jobs created on the project to peak at 6000, the free advertising will help local businesses tap into a market bigger than some Victorian country towns.

The Workforce Trader Directory is an initiative of the West Gate Tunnel Project to give local cafes, gyms, and service and entertainment providers the chance to market themselves to thousands of people working in the west.

For workers already familiar with the local area, the directory offers fresh ideas and direct access to quality businesses.

The project team has been meeting with businesses and trader associations along the 17 kilometre West Gate Tunnel Project corridor to understand their needs and offer advice on getting involved with the project.

Some businesses are already benefitting from the massive influx of customers, including Kindred Café, Harris Street Yarraville, which has become a favourite haunt of workers based across the road at the project’s huge northern portal and ‘tunnelling hub’ sites in Footscray.

Kindred Café is now opening earlier and providing a mobile café on site to accommodate hungry workers searching for excellent coffee and breakfast.

Businesses in the inner west can register online.

Printed trader directories will also be available at all site sheds and offices on the project.
