Over summer, major projects are taking advantage of the quieter roads to transform major roads, making it easier and safer to move around the west.
West Gate Tunnel Project crews will work around the clock to carry out important reconstruction works to prepare for widening the West Gate Freeway from 8 to 12 through lanes.
This work includes rebuilding ramps that go over the West Gate Freeway at the M80 Ring Road interchange and replacing them with new frames to allow space for the freeway widening works. In addition, new entry and exit ramps will be built at Millers Road, as well as placing more barriers so that we can continue the freeway widening works during 2020.
During this time, there will be 24/7 freeway ramp closures around the West Gate Freeway and M80 interchange with delays of up to 30 minutes expected.
Roads disruptions to keep in mind when travelling about Melbourne’s west include:
- 13 Jan to 17 Feb - Millers road outbound on and off-ramps to West Gate Freeway closed
- 13 Jan – 28 Feb - Geelong Road to Princes Freeway outbound ramp closed
- 13 Jan – 28 Feb - M80 Ring Road to West Gate Freeway inbound ramp closed.
Other major programs of work will also be taking place across Melbourne with disruptions on public transport and other roads over summer including at the intersection of Dohertys and Fitzgerald roads which will be closed from the 2nd - 22nd January to replace the roundabout with traffic lights.
Before travelling, plan ahead: take another route or allow more time for your journey.
We’re working to get these projects finished as quickly as possible. Sometimes dates change so check www.bigbuild.vic.gov.au for the latest information before you travel.
