Major improvements to the Federation Trail in Melbourne’s west are underway to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to get around.
The recent removal of two pedestrian bridges over the West Gate Freeway as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project, will make room for the missing link in the Federation Trail to be built with a new off-road path between Fogarty Ave and Hyde Street in Yarraville.
In addition, there will be upgrades to the trail from Kororoit Creek to Fogarty Ave.
Further west, the second of three overpass bridges were recently installed at Leakes Road by the Western Roads Upgrade program, to complement the Federation Trail upgrades being delivered by The West Gate Tunnel Project.
The new 55-metre long overpass at Leakes Road in Truganina will provide cyclists and pedestrians with an uninterrupted route and offer improved safety by preventing the need to cross the busy arterial at street level.
A similar overpass was installed at Dohertys Road in Laverton North in February, with a third to be installed at the Palmers Road-Sayers Road intersection in Williams Landing later this year.
Once all these upgrades are complete, cyclists will be able to enjoy a continuous journey from Werribee to the City.
