Works and traffic changes August 2021 to January 2022

To continue widening the freeway from eight to twelve through lanes, and continue constructing the new walking and cycling path along Fogarty Avenue, there will be ongoing traffic changes from 10 August 2021.

From 10 August 2021 until January 2022, we will be working on The Avenue under the West Gate Freeway and Fogarty Avenue, which will require ongoing traffic changes including road closures.

There are two key work areas:

  • the freeway bridges above the Fogarty Avenue/The Avenue connection
  • on and adjacent to the western end of Fogarty Avenue.

Further works are required at Fogarty Avenue to complete cycling and walking connections and to install new kerb, drainage and ITS systems.

We understand this is disruptive to the community and are applying every effort to minimise this disruption whilst we construct these essential works. By doing these works simultaneously we are minimising the length of time we need to close the connection between Fogarty Avenue and The Avenue.

Traffic changes will be updated on social media, sent out via our weekly traffic alert and on the Big Build website. If you are directly impacted by any of our works, we will be directly in touch.

Changes to bus route 432 can be found on  PTV’s website.

We are grateful to community for your continued patience and cooperation.

See our works notification for more information about these works.

Federation Trail works

Work has commenced on building a section of the Federation Trail extension, from the Footscray Hockey Club to The Boulevard.

Once completed, the Federation Trail will extend from the Footscray Hockey Club to Hyde Street and provide a safe and dedicated space for cyclists and pedestrians along the West Gate Freeway.
